Volvo Buses has received an order for 107 bus chassis to Israel. Deliveries start now and will be ongoing through July.

Volvo Buses reported higher order bookings during the first quarter of 2008 compared with the corresponding period in the preceding year. Deliveries were at the same level but the result was negative.

After finalizing the negotiations with employee representatives, Volvo Buses has decided to close the bus body plant in Tampere, Finland. The company will also reorganize operations at the body plant in Turku to increase the competitiveness. In total, 237 employees will be given notice.

Volvo Buses has received its largest single order so far in Europe. Jointly with the bodybuilder Wrightbus, the company will deliver buses in the coming years in the UK valued at SEK 1.5 billion. Volvo’s share of the order value is about 35-40%.

Volvo Buses has received an order for an additional 240 city buses to Bangalore, India. The 70 Volvo buses already in traffic in the city have enticed many inhabitants to park their cars and take the bus instead.

Volvo Buses is now launching its BRT Volvo 7800 bus in China. Currently, there is a strong environmental focus in China prior to the Olympic Games and later the World Expo in Shanghai. In addition, Volvo’s Chinese company Sunwin has received an order for 395 city buses to the Olympic city of Qingdao.

The Board of Directors of Volvo Bus Finland Oy has decided to initiate negotiations with representatives of the employees with the intention to close the bus body plant in Tampere. It is also about to reorganize operations at the body plant in Turku to increase the competitiveness. In total, approx. 300 employees could be affected.

Volvo Buses has received an order for 55 luxuriously-equipped coaches for the Emirate of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. The chassis will be Volvo B12B and the bodies will be manufactured by the Spanish coach manufacturer Sunsundegui.

The Volvo 9700 has been named “Coach of the Year 2008” in Slovenia. The jury praised Volvo’s advanced technology, environmental care and value for money.
