Volvo Buses has received order for 260 buses in India. Among these the city of Bangalore purchased an additional 140 Volvo 8400 city buses.

Volvo Buses has received the Automotive Technology of the Year award in India for the Volvo 9400 6x2 coach model. The first three-axle coach in India, it contributes to transport economy and higher passenger comfort.

Volvo Buses’ subsidiary Nova Bus has received an order for 410 city buses to Montreal in Canada. The order is valued at SEK 1.3 billion and deliveries will be made over three years beginning in 2009.

Volvo Buses recorded a profit of SEK 72 M for the fourth quarter of 2008, which is somewhat lower than the year-earlier period. The bus industry has been affected by the recession, but to a considerably lower degree than the rest of the automotive industry.

Volvo Buses has received orders for 424 buses to customers in Norway and Sweden. In Norway, three operators that won two large tenders chose for the most part to purchase Volvo buses.

Volvo Buses is now taking a further stride in its global expansion through the launch of the Volvo 9700 in the US and Canada. For the first time in more than 20 years, buses with the Volvo brand are being sold in North America.

Volvo Buses has received an order for 235 city buses to Sydney and Brisbane, Australia. In addition, there could be another 250 buses to Brisbane in the years ahead.

Volvo Buses is currently taking the next step in the development of its hybrid vehicles with the world premiere of the company’s new double-decker hybrid bus at the Euro Bus Expo show in Birmingham, UK.

Volvo Buses has received its first order for the company’s new hybrid bus, Volvo 7700 Hybrid. Sales-Lentz, a bus operator in Luxembourg, has ordered six hybrid buses with delivery starting in 2009.

Volvo Buses reports increased order intake during the third quarter 2008. Deliveries were higher than in the corresponding period a year earlier, but earnings remained negative.
