TRANSANTIAGO

Transantiago is the modernizing project of the public transport of Santiago, Chile, the main purposes of which are to increase the number of the public transport users, to reduce the level of air pollution, to reduce the number of vehicles in the central areas of the city, and to improve the Santiago public transport system safety and reliability.

A renowned provider of transport solutions, Volvo is taking part in this important modernizing project with its B9 SALF articulated bus and B7R low-entry bus. Both the models comply with all the technological and environmental demands of the Transantiago project.

In total, Volvo has delivered 1779 buses for the Transantiago project - 1159 B9 SALF Articulated and 620 B7R Low Entry.

The chassis of the B9 SALF Articulated produced in Brazil features an electronic controlled 360 hp Volvo engine, electronically controlled brake system, and provides a 100% low floor vehicle, with four doors to facilitate boarding and exiting of passengers. This bus has a capacity of 160 passengers. SALF is the short for Side Articulated Low Floor.

The B7R Low-Entry chassis were produced in Borås, a city near to Gothenburg, Sweden, the World Headquarters of the Volvo Group. These vehicles feature an electronically controlled, 7-litre Volvo engine, an electronically controlled brake system, 12 metres in length and capacity of 80 passengers.
