Volvo Buses is the world-leading supplier of buses for the modern Bus Rapid Transit system. “The BRT system represents much of what Volvo represents, such as better safety, economy of operation and environmental considerations,” says Volvo Buses’ environmental manager Peter Danielsson.

The city of Göteborg in Sweden uses a type of Bus Rapid Transit system that generates more passengers and financial profit. “The bus route has considerably helped the city transform an old, run-down harbour area into a new, modern district,” says Bernt Nielsen, head of public transport in Göteborg.

Volvo Buses has received several orders for a total of 60 Volvo B12R chassis to be delivered to South Africa, as well as 20 chassis to Egypt. “The Volvo B12R means we now have basic, robust yet modern chassis equipped with our largest engine. A lot of markets have been asking for this,” says Håkan Sjöberg, sales manager for Africa.

The Volvo Buses factory in Wroclaw, Poland, is celebrating its tenth anniversary. The celebrations come as Volvo Buses’ largest and most modern factory in Europe reports a major increase in the number of buses it produces.

Chassis no. 100,000 rolled out of Volvo Buses plant in Borås on Wednesday. This happened as the plant has more to do than ever before in its 28-year history. A contributory factor is Volvo Buses’ major order from Santiago in Chile.

Volvo Buses has received an order for 500 bus chassis from Iran. The order came from the company’s importer in the country, Run Iran. All the chassis will be delivered in 2005.

Volvo Buses has received an order for 87 city buses for Shanghai. 47 of these buses are Volvo’s first midi-buses in China.

Looking to the future, UK bus operator First has now launched a concept vehicle, StreetCar, as part of its innovate “ftr” project. StreetCar is based on a platform developed by Volvo Buses.

Volvo-owned Nova Bus in Canada is launching its new Nova LFS Suburban, an intercity bus with a low floor and comfortable seats.

Volvo-owned Prevost Car is launching a multiplex system in its H Series tourist coaches. This is the first time Prevost uses technology and components common to those in Volvo buses.
