Volvo’s hybrid bus has now been tested by Göteborgs Spårvägar for a year and the results have revealed major environmental benefits. Fuel consumption and carbon emissions have fallen 30%.

Prior to the Soccer World Cup, several South African cities are investing in building intelligent bus-based transport systems. Two of the three cities have selected Volvo as its supplier of buses.

Volvo Buses has recently delivered 1,500 buses to the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, China, which opens officially on Saturday. The fleet includes 120 electric buses that will operate within the exhibition area.

PostAuto in Switzerland has taken delivery of a Volvo 7700 Hybrid. "Volvo’s parallel hybrid is the only hybrid in the market that appears to have the ability to manage our rural routes,” says Werner Blatter at PostAuto.

The City of Honolulu has placed an order valued at $10 million for 24 Nova LFS buses, with options on additional vehicles. The buses will be assembled in Nova Bus’ upstate New York plant and delivered in late 2010.

Volvo Buses reports an increase in both order intake and deliveries during the fourth quarter 2009 compared with the same quarter in the preceding year. The operating income was however negative.

Volvo Buses has secured an order for 323 coaches in Mexico. Most of these will be delivered in 2010.

Volvo Buses has been named the winner of the Swedish Traffic Safety Award 2010. The company was awarded the prize for its work on an alcolock specially adapted for buses.

The operator company Nettbuss has ordered 12 hybrid buses from Volvo Buses for service in Norway, thereby becoming the first company in the Nordic region to implement the hybrid technology commercially. Hybrid buses reduce fuel consumption by as much as 30%.

Volvo Buses has recently secured several significant orders in the Nordic countries. These involve a total of about 260 buses to be delivered in 2010.
