Former US President Bill Clinton’s climate initiative has chosen Volvo as its partner with regard to hybrid buses and efficient bus systems. Together with the Clinton Climate Initiative, Volvo’s solutions can contribute to reducing carbon dioxide emissions pursued by 40 of the world’s large cities.

With much pomp and ceremony, Volvo Buses’ President Håkan Karlsson received the impressive prize signifying that the Volvo 9700 was named Coach of the Year 2008. In his speech, Jury Chairman Stuart Jones praised the bus’s many positive features.

Volvo’s 9700 tourist coach has been named “Coach of the Year 2008” by a jury consisting of leading European trade press journalists. The jury praised the 9700’s high level of passenger comfort and driving characteristics - “a super vehicle to drive”.

Volvo is launching the B9R, the market’s most advanced coach chassis, on the Brazilian market. With a 9-liter rear engine and a 4x2 configuration, the B9R was developed to meet the Brazilian operator market’s most stringent availability, fuel consumption, safety and comfort demands.

Volvo Buses has been granted Government support from the Swedish Energy Authority for the development of its hybrid technology for buses.

Volvo Buses in Norway has secured its largest individual order to date. The bus operator Veolia Transport has ordered 173 Volvo buses that will be deployed in traffic operations in the Stavanger area.

A Volvo bus contract in Santiago, Chile, with a new bus operator, has been cancelled. Volvo Buses, though, continues to deliver new buses to the three other operators in Santiago.
