Volvo 7700 Hybrid bus – a fuel saver for the environment
Saves up to 35 percent fuel
The Volvo 7700 Hybrid bus, saving up to 35 percent fuel, is a great choice for those looking for an environmentally friendly solution. Currently, a field test is taking place in Gothenburg to verify the anticipated fuel savings. The results from the field tests are very satisfying - the promised fuel saving of up to 35 percent are achieved and surpassed in some cases. At the same time, exhaust emissions are lowered by as much as 50 percent.
Two independent motors
The Volvo 7700 Hybrid is a so called parallel hybrid, featuring diesel and electric power that can operate
independently of each other. The electric motor is used to start and accelerate the bus up to about 20 km/h, while the diesel engine takes over at higher speeds. Read more about how it works here.
Already available on the market
The Volvo 7700 Hybrid is the only commercially viable hybrid available on the market. Among other countries, Luxembourg, Norway, Switzerland and Austria have invested in the Volvo 7700 Hybrid. Serial production will commence in April 2010.
