National Express name Volvo bus after Wolverhampton celeb Dicky Dodd

by Volvo Bus United Kingdom and Ireland

Well-known Signal 107 radio presenter and station programme Manager Dicky Dodd has celebrated 20 years of broadcasting by having a National Express Volvo B7RLE single deck bus named after him.

Dicky is a keen bus enthusiast and has built an excellent working relationship with National Express West Midlands. This has facilitated a number of charitable fundraising events and day trips for under privileged children and families of those living with life-limiting illnesses.

Recognising his recent broadcasting milestone and his ongoing commitment to charity work, National Express West Midlands decided to name one of their Volvo B7RLE single deck buses, with Wrightbus Eclipse bodywork, after him.

The honour was bestowed upon Dicky at a specially arranged ceremony in Wolverhampton on Saturday 29th March. It is the tenth such dedication named after local charities or Wolverhampton celebrities who have been ambassadors for their home city. Other notable personalities to have vehicles named after them include footballing legend Steve Bull and pop star Beverley Knight.

Having already passed his PCV licence with National Express West Midlands, Dicky is currently undertaking his CPC qualification with them and is consistently achieving Grade A in his assessments.

“When we heard of National Express West Midland’s plans to name one of our Volvo buses after Dicky Dodd we were delighted to lend our full support,” explained Volvo Bus Managing Director, Nick Page.

“He has been a central figure in the local community and it is fantastic that his charitable work and unbelievable dedication has been recognised in this way. Everyone at Volvo Bus fully supports and applauds this initiative.”

The B7RLE with Wrightbus Eclipse body has been a popular vehicle for Volvo over the last number of years and can be regularly seen on the roads in and around Wolverhampton. The B7RLE has at Euro 6 been succeeded by Volvo’s new B8RLE, which was officially launched last year and is expected to prove popular with operators and customers around the country.
