“Volvo Buses is passionate to be producing complete solutions that enable the public transport sector worldwide to embrace the transition to electromobility. This partnership demonstrates confidence in the Volvo BZL Electric solutions and our ambition to lead the way in providing sustainable and responsible electric bus systems,” says Anna Westerberg, President of Volvo Buses.
The capabilities of the Volvo BZL Electric bus system are the focus of RTA’s trial operation, which will test Opportunity Charging (fast charging on the road) for the first time in Dubai.
It has sparked the development of significant infrastructure to deliver electromobility in line with the government’s energy and carbon reduction strategy. It also marks a significant step in Dubai’s initiative to support and develop sustainable public transportation.
As part of the six-month trial, two Volvo BZL Electric buses will travel on a specifically designed route to test Dubai’s new electric charging infrastructure at the La Mer and Al Quoz bus stations and the effect of the region’s road terrain, temperatures and need for air conditioning on the Volvo BZL Electric battery systems.
Manish insert name and title, says: “The energy efficiency and technological capacity of the Volvo BZL Electric is central to our trial in Dubai. This unique partnership between Volvo Buses, the RTA, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Meraas Real Estate and ABB will provide us with significant data and insights for the future operation of mass sustainable public transport in Dubai.”
The trial builds on Volvo Buses recent global tests of the Volvo 7900 Electric bus in both cold and warm climates. Operations in various Spanish cities during 2020, with an ambient temperature often exceeding 40°C, provided valuable insights and solutions for scenarios where the energy usage of the buses was affected by using the air conditioning to full capacity.
Volvo Buses has already supplied more than 6,500 electrified buses to cities worldwide. The partnership with Dubai illustrates the success of its turnkey solutions offering quiet, zero-emission buses, charging infrastructure and servicing.
