These new buses follow two of identical specification that were purchased by the company in early 2019 for deployment on the AirDecker airport service.  The latest order was made with the new low emission zones for Bath and Bristol in mind, which are set to come into force in 2021, with the Euro VI engine ensuring full compliance for the operator.

The 67 seat double deck buses are to be used on routes covering Bath, South Bristol and the Bristol AirDecker service and have been supplied to a bespoke specification, including luggage areas and some seating placed around tables.

Martin Curtis, Managing Director for Bath Bus Company, explains:  “Our AirDecker fleet is made up entirely of  Volvo and in the past we purchased ex demo vehicles for these operations, as well as open top vehicles for our city tours. This time we worked very closely with Volvo and MCV to develop a bespoke specification for the AirDecker buses, featuring two tiered luggage racks to provide extra storage space for travellers.

“With the new low emission zones arriving in Bath and Bristol next year, we needed to make sure we are ready with fully compliant vehicles to meet the new requirements.

“In addition, aftermarket is also important to us and we have an excellent ongoing relationship with Wales & West Truck and Bus in Avonmouth, which was another reason for our going with Volvo again this time.”

Phil Fletcher, Fleet Sales Manager for Volvo Buses, said:  “Bath Bus Company is an established Volvo bus operator and these buses will not only give them excellent fuel economy for their business, they are also set up and ready for the new low emission zone next year.  The vehicles also include all the features and benefits expected by today’s bus traveller such as USB charging points, LED destination displays and tables situated on the upper deck.”

Bath Bus Company is part of the RATP Dev Group and its services include open top and city tours incorporating the Roman Baths, Thermae Bath Spa, the Jane Austen Centre, Royal Crescent  and Bath Abbey.
