With 2021 marking 50 years since Volvo Bus reached Australian shores, Volvo Bus Australia reflects on the decades of success, based on its unwavering commitment to its values of quality, safety and environmental care.
Historic Buses

Venturing from the cold and rugged land of Sweden to the dusty roads of Australia in 1971, Volvo Bus quickly found success and became recognised as an automotive pioneer of quality, safety and environmental care in the Australian market. This success was not without difficulty, though it was immense passion for the industry and strong leadership, that established Volvo Bus as a reliable and dedicated company, committed to servicing customers of all kinds across Australia.

Throughout the years, Volvo Bus Australia undertook a strong evolution in its product lines and effectively adapted its offerings to better cater for ever-changing market needs. The B57, B58 and B59 were the first models to hit Australia’s roads running in 1971, and over the next twenty years, we saw a product range spanning across the coach, school and city buses in the B10M, B6, B10C, B12 and B10B. In 1993, Volvo Bus Australia asserted itself as the market leader and in following years, released the very successful B10BLE, B7R, B7RLE, B9R, B12, B12BLE, and B13. From 2011 onwards, the Volvo product line began to reflect what it is today with the much loved B11R, B8R, B8RLE and B5L entering the market.

While the product speaks for itself, it’s the people who have really made Volvo Bus Australia what it is today – with industry figures such as Simon Bath, David Mead and Lauren Downs at the helm at different times, alongside respected industry stalwarts Ray Andrich, David Woodward and Sam Compasso. Having the only dedicated bus team in Australia and the largest dealer network in the country, is something Volvo Bus Australia are really proud of – putting relationships with customers, dealers, partners and industry stakeholders at the forefront of everything we do.

With the 50-year milestone marked, Volvo Bus Australia will endeavour to remain on the forefront of new technologies, with a focus on innovation, environmental care and of course Safety which is the backbone of the Volvo brand. We will continue to provide unparalleled, dedicated quality and service to customers across Australia. The 2022 launch of the Volvo Bus electric chassis into the market will see an exciting next step forward - marking just the beginning of an exciting future for Volvo Bus Australia – and more importantly – it’s customers and communities across Australia seeking a greener future.
