Built on the proven and successful B8R eight‑litre chassis, the new high‑capacity model is offered with 3+2 or 2+2 seating capacities with either 72 or 59 passenger seats. Adaptable seating gives operators the flexibility to adjust passenger capacity during the vehicle’s lifecycle – helping transport providers respond to evolving customer demands and business needs while supporting long‑term value.
Domenico Bondi, Managing Director of Volvo Bus UK & Ireland, says: “We’ve worked closely with our partner MCV to develop a solution for school transport operators. These customers face unique challenges, balancing safety, capacity and cost-efficiency while ferrying the next generation to and from the classroom and for educational outings.
“This new model addresses those demands with increased seating capacity, allowing students to travel together in a single vehicle. Combined with the reliability of the Volvo chassis and D8K engine, operators and teachers can be confident that passengers will get where they need to go comfortably and safely.”
Deliveries of the new Volvo B8R – MCV eVoTor are anticipated to commence from Autumn 2026. The new 12.8m coach features a reconfigured entrance and luggage area, redesigned from the classic model to accommodate a flat floor design. To achieve the increased seating capacity, the new model has been fitted with a manual rear emergency exit, with steps integrated into the door.
The coach is powered by Volvo’s D8K engine, delivering up to 350 hp and 1,585 Nm of torque, compatible with hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) and biofuels – supporting operators aiming to reduce their environmental footprint. Paired with a ZF fully automatic gearbox, the driveline offers smooth and precise gearshifts with high average speeds and excellent fuel efficiency.
For passenger comfort and convenience, each seat includes a recessed footrest with type A and C USB sockets fitted in each row. All vehicles are PSVAR-compliant, with Hanover White LED digital destination blinds to the front, back, and side, a side-mounted wheelchair lift and quick-release seats. Each is also equipped with roof-mounted air conditioning systems, providing both heating and cooling. For driver well-being and safety, the cab has been fitted with an electric front sunblind, bottle holder, USB charging socket, and reversing camera with a 7” monitor integrated into the dashboard.
Every Volvo bus and coach entering service is backed by the company’s network of over 80 Volvo Truck & Bus dealerpoints across the UK and Ireland. This ensures operators benefit from expert service, parts availability and peace of mind wherever they go.
