Chandlers, who specialise in luxury travel, were so delighted with their tri-axle 9700 that their new model is almost identical in specification but slightly longer, to give greater passenger and luggage capacity.
The 13.8 metre coach is specified with Volvo’s Euro 4 compliant DH12E engine rated at 460hp, coupled to the I-Shift gearbox. On board, the theatre-style concept, with its sloping floor and large tinted side windows provides excellent vision for all passengers. All 50 seats have integral three point seat belts and the ventilation system has high capacity, good air distribution with individually adjustable air-circulation outlet vents for each seat.
Other features include a demountable toilet/washroom, servery, GPS Navigation for both driver and passenger viewing and the Volvo Sound and Vision package comprising radio, CD and DVD complete with two TFT monitors and sub woofer speakers.
In addition, both driver and passengers benefit from the latest safety features including preventative measures such as all round electronic disc brakes and Electronic Stability Programme (ESP); and protective initiatives to minimise injuries like Front Under-run Protection System (FUPS), Front Impact Protection System (FIPS) and Knee Impact Protection System (KIPS).
“As soon as we saw the Volvo 9700, we felt it would meet our needs and we were proved right,” explained Director Margaret I’Anson. “It’s got a stunning appearance which grabs attention immediately and having Volvo engineering throughout is a real benefit, whilst our drivers love it because it handles so well.
“And the response from our customers has been so enthusiastic that the only change we made when we ordered another was to increase capacity to enable larger groups to travel together and enjoy the same standards of luxury.”
The new coach will be used for luxury private hire and on Chandlers’ own tour programme which encompasses a range of British and European destinations.
Family run Chandlers, who are based in Westbury in Wiltshire, specialise in high quality coach hire. In addition to their holiday programme, they operate a range of day trips and arrange tailor made itineraries for group travel.
