McCarthy’s first purchase direct from Volvo, the vehicles are specified with a common rail diesel D7C 7.1 litre engine, rated at 290hp, coupled to a ZF six speed gearbox. Both coaches have been configured with 53 seats- all with three point seat belts - full climate control, reversing camera, fridge and CD/DVD player.

“I have bought Volvo in the past but think these latest B7Rs are a big improvement on previous models – it’s a really excellent product,” said Donal McCarthy. “In addition, I get all the benefits of Volvo engineering, reliability and back-up, all of which is crucial when coaches will be out on the road as much as these.”

The two new vehicles undertake a mix of work including fulfilling contracts for Bus Eireann, private hire around Ireland and tour work on behalf of other operators throughout Ireland and to the UK.

“To me, reliability and passenger comfort are equally vital,” adds Donal McCarthy. “This is a small country and we depend a lot on repeat business. It’s therefore vital that customers have a really positive experience each time they travel with us and the new Volvos are delivering just that.”
