The Carstairs based firm purchased a Jonckheere bodied B12B two years ago – their first new coach in 15 years - which is also used for Glenton Holidays contracts.
“The time had come to buy again as part of the general fleet renewal,” explained Walter Stokes. “We have a mixed fleet but are keen on Volvo for touring work because of the nationwide back up, which we regard as essential. Also, as the B12B Jonckheere had been so well received both by Glenton’s customers and our drivers, it made sense to opt for the same again.”
The new vehicle, which features Jonckheere’s latest bodywork, is specified with Volvo’s 12 litre DH12E engine rated at 420hp and coupled to the I-Shift gearbox. Its high spec interior will guarantee touring in comfort. Configured with 51/53 seats – all with leather trim and headrests - three point belts, cup holders and magazine racks, it also features full climate control, central demountable toilet, CD/DVD player and hot and cold drinks facilities.
It went into service in March for Glenton Holidays with a busy season of UK tours planned. Stokes are confident it will prove as popular as its predecessor. “It looks the part, provides the luxury the passenger expect and comes with Volvo’s back-up – so I’m expecting more satisfied customers!” said Walter Stokes.
Volvo’s Regional Coach Sales Manager, Duncan Crosby added, “We’re delighted that Stokes’ first new coach purchase in 15 years proved such a success that they’ve come back for more and we’ll ensure they receive the high quality customer service they have come to expect from us.”
Family run Stokes was established in 1925 and is still run by the founder’s grandsons. It now operates a fleet of over 20 coaches and buses on private hire, school contracts, service routes and tours on behalf of other operators.
