The County Armagh based firm have bought second hand Volvos in the past but were so impressed by the B9R that they decided to invest in new.

“We’d decided we wanted another Volvo as they have just proved so reliable for us” explained MD, Michael Slane. “And as soon as we saw the B9R we really liked it.”

It’s easy to see why. The 12.2m Volvo B9R combines the driving qualities of the B12B and B12M with a lighter weight construction. The high specification interior is fitted with 49/51 Esteban Club Irati seats - all with three point belts, leather headrests and piping and individual reading lights. The multimedia system incorporates MP3, RDS radio, CD/ DVD player and GPS navigation system with a 19” LCD monitor at the front and 15” TFT monitor at the rear. Passengers also have the benefit of Bluetooth hands free mobile phone installation, Carrier Sutrak air conditioning and heating system throughout, as well as WC with hand drier, fridge and hot drinks machine.

The new vehicle is already in service, undertaking tours of the UK and Ireland on behalf of a number of holiday companies and the response has been excellent. “We’ve had great reports from our drivers and the customers think it’s tremendous,” said Michael Slane. “We’re pleased but not surprised – the vehicle looks great, provides passengers with every comfort and comes with all the benefits you’d expect from Volvo engineering – what more can you ask for?”

Volvo’s Regional Commercial Manager, Duncan Crosby added: “Slanes’ is a typical response to the B9R. It delivers the high quality our customers demand together with optimum fuel economy thanks to its lightweight construction. We’re delighted that Slane Coaches are already seeing the benefits of opting for our latest model.”

Established 42 years ago, Slane Coach & Taxis Ltd remains a family firm run by husband and wife team, Michael and Mary Slane, with their son Paul. It now operates a nine-strong mixed fleet undertaking a range of UK and Irish touring work as well as local contracts and private hire throughout the Armagh and Newry area.
