Metroline Travel order underlines global reach

Volvo Bus has used this week’s Coach & Bus Live Show (Wednesday 7th October) to announce a significant order for London bus operator Metroline Travel.

A yet to be disclosed number of Volvo B9TL Eclipse Gemini 2 Double Deck buses will be supplied in 2010 to Metroline Travel, the bus operating subsidiary of Metroline Plc., which is itself part of the ComfortDelGro Corporation, the world’s second largest land transport group.

The new vehicles will benefit from all the quality, safety and environmental features of the proven Volvo B9TL chassis, powered by the Volvo D9B 9.4 litre EEV compliant engine. In partnership with Wrightbus, Volvo has developed the Volvo B9TL Eclipse Gemini 2 Double Deck bus with an optimised specification to meet the demanding requirements of London bus operations and Transport for London (TfL) specification.

Today’s announcement for Metroline Travel follows on from an order received by Volvo Bus Corporation and the Wright Group earlier this year, for 150 buses in CKD form for SBS Transit Limited, another ComfortDelGro Corporation company.

The order from Metroline will see Volvo chassis from Sweden bodied at the Wrightbus facility in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, with vehicle deliveries into London commencing in Spring 2010.

Commenting on the announcement, Bus Sales Director at Volvo Bus Phil Owen said, “We are delighted to be able to announce this order for Metroline at the show today. Working in partnership with the Wright Group, we have recently been able to meet the specific requirements of two very different ComfortDelGro operations in two separate continents. This underlines the global reach and capability of the Volvo Group.”

Detailed specifications and order volumes will be confirmed in due course.
