The company which is wholly owned by Rossendale Borough Council, making it one of the few remaining municipal bus companies left in the United Kingdom, have specified Volvo over a number of years due to the reliability of the vehicles and Volvo’s capability in meeting deadlines.

Having recently decided to replace some of their existing fleet with more modern and sophisticated vehicles, the Volvo B7RLE was the obvious choice. Each vehicle is specified with the Volvo Euro 5 compliant engine, which significantly reduces harmful emissions.

The buses are being used on a variety of scheduled routes operated by Rossendale, one of which is the popular 464 route between Accrington through Rawtenstall and Bacup to Rochdale.

With a capacity of up to 76, the low floor vehicles are each fitted with an eight camera state-of-the-art Look CCTV system to ensure the safety and security of all passengers.

Featuring a new livery with dual branding, the vehicles are intended as a “thank you” to residents, providing a recognisable and friendly local presence. The first branding is the familiar “Easyride” logo while the second branding is “Rossendale Bus”, both use a new contemporary font. In addition the vehicles contain the company message for residents “ your bus, your service, your route”.

The livery was designed in-house at Rossendale, whilst the fitting and vinyls were provided by Parkinson Signs of Blackburn. Adding to the modern design of the vehicles is electronic destination equipment, provided and fitted by McKennas of Middleton.

Entering operation this month (February), the new buses have joined an already strong fleet of 118 vehicles serving the region.

“Both the company and the council are fully committed to providing the best service possible and the purchase of these new vehicles demonstrates our investment to the local area and to the residents that use the services,” explained Rossendale Transport Finance Director Matthew Parkes.

“Rossendale Transport will continue to have a highly visual presence in the area and provide the residents with a service that they both know and trust”.
