On Volvo’s recommendation the company purchased a Volvo D10M Double Deck City Bus that had previously been operating in Scotland. The former school bus has been completely stripped out and refurbished with state-of-the-art gym equipment and a food preparation area, with the intention of encouraging its visitors into healthier living.
It was vital that a reliable vehicle was selected, one which could be adapted to suit the requirements of the specification. Volvo recommended the D10M and then assisted Healthy Living in finding a suitable and available bus, before providing a free safety check up.
The unique vehicle aims to help people achieve better family health and have fun at the same time by offering sessions for everyone over the age of nine. The concept has already been commissioned by local organisations such as the Darwen and Rural Neighbourhood Board and Twin Valley Homes.
Accommodating 16 visitors per session, with 8 people in the kitchen and 8 in the gym, the bus provides a safe and secure learning environment, where a healthy lifestyle can be actively promoted.
The mobile gym and health education unit was the brainchild of Healthy Living’s Abdul Mulla, who was delighted with the speed at which his idea became a reality. “Thanks to the enthusiasm of the team we’ve been able to get the Health Buzz from the drawing board to the road in just 18 months”.
Volvo Bus and Coach Service Manager Derek Mayor explains that they were only too glad to assist “Healthy Living came to us, we listened to their requirements and then helped them to source the best vehicle possible to meet those specifications”.
Pauline Walsh, Chair of the Healthy Living Board extended her gratitude saying, “I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone for their help in getting the Health Buzz up and running. Without their commitment and support we wouldn’t have been able to realise our ambition to help improve family health in this way”.
