Taking place on Thursday 13th May 2010 at The Menzies Welcombe Hotel & Spa Golf Club in Stratford-upon-Avon, the event will provide a day of excitement whilst also raising some much needed money for Volvo’s designated charity.
The day starts with an early breakfast, followed by a round of Golf set amongst wonderful surroundings at the prestigious course, before a three course evening dinner, which will include entertainment and a guest speaker.
A number of prizes will also be up for grabs during the day, including Nearest the Pin, with the prize giving ceremony being held during the evening dinner at the Welcombe Hotel.
The Golf Day marks another significant charity drive by the Warwickshire based company, following their recently publicised Coast to Coast Challenge, which will see the Volvo Company Directors travel from Ilfracombe to Plymouth, firstly by bike and then by foot in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust.
TCT exists to help improve the lives of the 2,100 teenagers and young adults struck down each year with cancer. It helps provide specialist care for youngsters faced with a possibly life threatening illness, who might otherwise be receiving treatment in inappropriate facilities with inadequate support.
Volvo Bus is fully committed to raise £100,000 towards a new state-of-the-art cancer unit that would directly benefit youngsters in the Warwickshire region. The Golf event is just one of a number of initiatives which the company is using to generate that much needed money.
The money raised will be a substantial investment towards the £1 million needed to fund the development planned at Birmingham Children’s hospital.
The cancer unit could prove vital in making a real difference towards the lives of youngsters who already have such major issues to deal with at such a young age.
Speaking before the event, Volvo Bus Managing Director Steve Dewhurst said, “It is a staggering statistic that in the last 30 years the incidence of cancer in the teenage and young adult group has increased by 50% and that more teens than children are being diagnosed with cancer.
“Every little that we can do to support the Teenage Cancer Trust, with events such as this these will hopefully go some way towards saving lives in the region. Volvo Bus is proud to be associated with TCT and we will continue to support them in any way we can going forward”.
