‘Getting there, together’ at Euro Bus Expo as technology and innovation goes on show

Taking centre stage, as part of a four vehicle display on the Volvo stand at this week’s Euro Bus Expo 2010, is the Volvo 9700 coach featuring the new B13R chassis powered by the new 13 litre engine.

All four vehicles on display reflect Volvo’s show theme, ‘Getting there, together’, emphasising the company’s philosophy of listening to and working closely with its customers in the development of new products and services.

Nowhere is this better demonstrated than on the Volvo 9700 coach, which utilises the latest technology with the new, energy efficient, Euro 5 compliant, 13 litre engine. A true luxury executive coach specified to Volvo’s ‘Prestige Plus’ standard, the 13 metre version on display features the new B13R chassis platform combining flexibility with outstanding quality and exceptional performance.

Lightweight and extremely versatile, the Volvo B9R chassis has become extremely popular with a variety of operators. Two contrasting bodystyles on display at the EBE show stand – the new style Plaxton Panther 12.8 metre coach alongside the latest styling offered on a Sunsundegui Sideral 13 metre coach. Both vehicles provide exceptional driveability with high levels of passenger comfort, offering operators even more choice to fully meet their requirements.

Globally, Volvo is a leader in hybrid technology and this is demonstrated by the latest generation Volvo B5LH, complete with a Wrightbus Eclipse Gemini 2 body. The driveline consists of a 5 litre, Euro 5 diesel engine and a 70 kW electric motor in parallel configuration. Together with the energy recovered from braking, this combines to deliver significant fuel savings and offers operators an effective, cleaner alternative to conventional diesel bus.

Volvo is also using this week’s show to announce a number of operator initiatives and promotions for the 2011 Coach season, designed to ensure vehicles continue to operate at peak performance.

“Ongoing innovation and deployment of latest technology means that we can provide operators with vehicles that can deliver lower emissions and enhanced fuel consumption” explained Steve Dewhurst, Volvo Bus UK Managing Director. “A similar commitment to aftermarket support means that we can also continue our focus on increasing levels of reliability, availability and lowing whole life costs.”

As well as a significant presence inside the main exhibition hall, the outdoor display area also features a Volvo B9R 12.57 metre Jonckheere JHV126 coach with 53 seats that combines excellent driveability and versatility - ideal for tourist and intercity operations. Also on display and demonstrating full DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) compliance is a previously owned 72 seat Volvo B7TL double deck with Alexander body, which includes a manual ramp and wheelchair bay. Powered by a Volvo 215 hp Euro 2 engine, the vehicle is LEZ (Low Emission Zone) compliant and comes complete with an RPC certificate.

In addition to the new vehicles on display, Volvo has some special show offers on used coaches listed in a special newsletter available on the stand throughout the show. The vehicles are available through the Volvo Coach and Bus Sales Centre in nearby Coventry.
