The new purchases represent the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh new Volvo vehicles to join the Edinburgh Coach Lines fleet in just the last 12 months, with the Scottish company also having bought three Volvo 9700 coaches.

With a total of eight Volvo specified coaches now firmly established in the company’s impressive fleet of 26 vehicles, the last 12 months has seen an extremely positive relationship developing between the two companies.

The well established Megabus contract, operated on behalf of Stagecoach, will see the new Volvo B9R Plaxton Panther coaches running daily, carrying passengers between Dundee, Perth and Edinburgh.

Fitted with a D9B 6 cylinder direct injection, Euro 5 engine, rated at 380hp and connected to the proven Volvo I-Shift gearbox, the B9R combines exceptional ride and drive qualities with ergonomic and efficient performance.

Each coach features 49 seats with 3-point safety belts, demountable toilet, alloy wheels, air-conditioning, fridge and a boiler. The new vehicles are also fully DDA compliant and are specified with front entrance wheelchair access.

The step-free main cabin floor, with theatre style seating, provides unhindered ease of access and excellent views from all seats, whilst the Stel seat offers integral footrests as standard, together with a unique cushion shape for exceptional comfort.

“We’ve done quite a bit of business with Volvo over the last 12 months,” explained Peter Fyvie, Edinburgh Coach Lines General Manager. “We were pleased with our 9700s, so following our decision to upgrade our Megabus vehicles, we went back to Volvo and purchased four B9R Plaxton Panthers”.

“They meet all of the latest DDA specifications and have front fitted wheelchair access ensuring that all our Megabus customers get the full benefit of the service”.

Volvo Coach Sales Manager James Hyde said, “The last 12 months has really seen us develop our existing relationship with Edinburgh Coach Lines. We sold them 9700s, which they’ve been pleased with so it was good to be able to build on that with these four new B9R Plaxton Panthers”.
