Warwick based Volvo Bus recently hosted their third major fundraising Golf Event, in as many years, in support of Teenage Cancer Trust in Warwickshire.

The event, marking the culmination of the Volvo Bus association with Teenage Cancer Trust, was held at The Menzies Welcombe Hotel & Spa Golf Club in Stratford-upon-Avon. 25 teams and 100 golfers went head-to-head for some great prizes, with the competition proving fierce. The golf was followed by an evening of dining, prize auctions and entertainment with comedian Austin Knight.

Volvo Bus Managing Director, Steve Dewhurst took to the mic to thank everyone involved for their support, not only with this years’ Golf event, but with all of the last few years’ events, which have in total raised well over £100,000 for the charity.

The winning team on the day was the Volvo Bus 2 team, featuring Ian Wallace, Andy Morris, Mike Baldwin and recent Volvo recruit Dan Barwick. Volvo Bus 1 finished as runners up with the Trulux 2 team in third. Martin Cole made it a successful day for Trilux securing top spot in the individual awards with Greg Freeman from Meritor in second and Volvo Trucks’ Martin Oakes in third.

During the evening event awards were also made to top putter Adam Bellis, Ed Drew who secured the longest drive and Peter Coates, from National Express, who was “nearest the pin”. David Clibborn from Volvo Truck secured the evening’s final prize in the “Beat the Pro” challenge.

Steve Dewhurst also took the opportunity to wish Volvo Trucks every success as they take over the Teenage Cancer Trust fundraising mantle.

Volvo Bus have now succeeded in their target of raising over £100,000, through a variety of events, towards a new £1 million, state-of-the-art cancer unit at Birmingham Children’s hospital, directly benefiting youngsters in the Warwickshire region. Although the company will continue to actively fundraise, the Teenage Cancer Trust fundraising will now be predominantly supported by Volvo Trucks.

“The Golf Events over the last few years have been a huge contributor to the money we’ve manage to raise in support of Teenage Cancer Trust,” commented Volvo Bus Managing Director, Steve Dewhurst.

“Volvo Bus have been proud to be associated with Teenager Cancer Trust and we will look forward to seeing the efforts of our colleagues at Volvo Trucks in continued support of the charity”.

Teenage Cancer Trust exists to help improve the lives of the 2,100 teenagers and young adults struck down each year with cancer. It helps provide specialist care for youngsters faced with a possibly life threatening illness, who might otherwise be receiving treatment in inappropriate facilities with inadequate support.
