The latest order from the Suffolk based operator takes the total number of Volvo vehicles to nearly one quarter of their fleet of 50.

Going into operation from March 7th, the new vehicle will be used primarily as the flagship coach for Galloway’s Educational Travel Programme into Europe, as well as for other aspects of their wider coaching requirements.

Galloway’s Transport Manager, Andy Kemp, said of the decision to go ahead with a repeat order from last year: “There were several factors that led to our decision to take another Volvo B13R 9700. With the vehicle set for use on large capacity European Educational tours, to combat weight issues, a tri-axle chassis was a first port of call to ensure we remain compliant with European weight restrictions”.

“Obviously with the vehicle being used across long distances a high powered performance was required, with the ability to maintain excellent energy efficiency to keep our running costs as low as possible”.

“We found our previous Volvo B13R to meet all of these requirements, and taking another means we maintain a level of continuity within our fleet. Volvo back up and support was also crucial to our decision and having received exceptional support from the Ipswich dealership previously, we knew we would be looked after well once the vehicle is in operation”.

“I must also thank Volvo Bus Regional Sales Manager, Jo Standbridge, for making the sale so smooth. She was a great person to deal with and her aftercare is most encouraging.”

Powered by the proven Volvo D13C in-line six-cylinder diesel engine, the Volvo B13R meets the Euro 5 emission standard and comes fitted with the established Volvo I-Shift 12-speed, automated gear changing system, making the vehicle incredibly powerful yet also very fuel efficient.

Interior features of the vehicle include 53 passenger seats, WC, TV, CD and DVD player, with the exterior featuring an eye-catching livery designed specifically to reflect educational travel, in particular the First and Second World War destinations, whilst still retaining the company’s identity.

Jo Standbridge said: “Our Volvo B13R meets all the requirements for European coach travel and Galloway Coaches had already had a good experience with their previous order. In this sense the decision was quite an easy one. The 9700 bodywork had also worked well for the company previously and a repeat order of this provided the visual continuation that can be very important within the fleet.”
