Volvo 9700 wins Irish Coach of the Year 2014

The Volvo 9700 has won the recently re-established and prestigious Irish Coach of the Year 2014 award at the Fleet Bus & Coach Awards held at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin.

Jarlath Sweeney, Fleet Transport Magazine explained “The judges were extremely impressed with the fully integral 9700’s smooth driveline and superb manoeuvrability. Passengers travel in comfort and safety, while the driver can fully concentrate on what lies ahead on the road.
"From A to B to anywhere is the most suitable tag-line Volvo Bus use to describe their 9700 luxury coach, as it describes a journey to remember for both driver and passenger.”

On trial during the appraisal session was the Volvo 13 metre 6x2 version coach with independent front suspension. The vehicle is powered by Volvo’s D13C 460hp Euro 5 compliant engine with Volvo I-Shift automatic gearbox with retarder.

Collecting the award on behalf of Volvo Bus was Coach Sales Manager (UK& Ireland), James Hyde. “The Volvo 9700 coach has proved to be a particularly successful product for us in the UK & Ireland, with over 100 vehicles in service,” he explained. “It is an honour for Volvo to be recognised with this award for Irish Coach of the Year 2014.”

In all, there were eight main prizes presented in the Passenger Transport section, with two separate awards also presented for Irish Coach of the Year and Irish Midi-Coach of the Year.

For the first time, event organisers Fleet Publications teamed up with Frame Productions to broadcast the bi-ennial Fleet Bus & Coach Awards 2014 Show on Sky Channel 192 and FreeSat on Thursday 31 October at 10pm to a potential audience of almost 14 million homes across UK and Ireland.
