Previous positive experience of the Volvo brand and products were key factors in Yellow Buses in Bournemouth selecting the diesel engined Volvo B5TL for its latest fleet upgrade. The new Euro 6 vehicles were delivered in March 2015 and join five Euro 5 B9TLs delivered in 2014.

Reliability, back-up and support were also crucial factors in the operator specifying Volvo Bus. In addition the Wrightbus Gemini 3 styling and high quality leather interior adds to the overall finish of the vehicles.

Malcolm Venn, Head of Engineering, Yellow Buses, said: "These new Volvo double-deckers will allow our passengers in Bournemouth to travel in comfort and style on some of the most environmentally-friendly buses available anywhere in the UK.

"Our job is not just to get passengers to their location safely but ensure their journey is as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. The quality and high standard of our new double-deckers play an important role in this."

The Volvo B5TL is already proving 1600rpm.popular with operators. It provides enhanced levels of component commonality and has been developed to offer operators optimal uptime and overall lifecycle cost savings. Its D5K 4 cylinder engine is rated at 240hp at 1900rpm and it has a maximum torque of 918Nm at 1200-1600rpm.

Standard chassis features include electrically driven power steering assistance, automatic engine oil top up system, LED coolant level check, I-Start dual battery system and Volvo Telematics providing a comprehensive suite of fleet management reports, all of which are designed to improve fuel economy and optimise uptime.

Phil Fletcher, Fleet Sales Manager for Volvo Bus commented: “Yellow Buses took delivery of five B9TLs last year and they have been pleased with the in-service results in terms of fuel efficiency and reliability. This experience played a significant role in them specifying Volvo again this year.

“These latest buses are Euro 6 B5TLs and will offer greater weight savings, which in turn will provide the opportunity to achieve even better fuel results. This is a significant order for Volvo Bus and we look forward to continuing our relationship with Yellow Buses in the future.”
