Now in its fifth year, the golf day has become a regular and popular calendar event for the bus and coach industry and involves a highly competitive golf tournament, followed by dinner and a fund raising auction. So far the annual golf day has raised in excess of £66,500 for Teenage Cancer Trust and this figure forms part of a total of £140,000 Volvo Bus has already accumulated for the charity.

Taking place at The Menzies Welcombe Hotel & Spa Golf Club in Stratford-upon-Avon, a wide selection of prizes were awarded to winners on the day for their golfing achievements.  These included nearest the pin, the longest drive, beat the pro and a putting competition.

The total amount raised of £12,820.71 was presented to Emily Cooper, Regional Fundraiser for Teenage Cancer Trust’s West Midlands and Oxfordshire region, who visited Volvo Bus’ Warwick facility to receive the cheque.

Nick Page, Managing Director of Volvo Bus UK & Ireland, said: “We’re delighted to be presenting a cheque for such a fantastic sum of money to Emily and her team, who we know will put it to excellent use.

“We first organised the golf day five years ago to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust and far exceeded our original target. However, we didn’t want to stop there as we’ve seen what a difference the funds make to this extremely worthwhile cause. We are very grateful to Volvo Bus’ employees and customers as well as the wider industry for their continued support of this event, which enables us to contribute to this life changing charity.”

Emily added:  “Once again this is such a fantastic effort from Volvo Bus, who have become regular supporters of Teenage Cancer Trust. We thank everyone who was involved in making the day such a huge success and raising an incredible sum of money. As in previous years, the money raised will make sure that young people living with cancer in the West Midlands don’t feel so alone.”

Teenage Cancer Trust exists to improve the quality of life and chances of survival for young people with cancer. It provides them with specialist care and focuses on providing the quality of life and attitude necessary to combat such a cruel and life threatening illness.
