The new vehicles are to help the company deal with significantly increased passenger demand and the coaches are being gradually introduced over a period of two weeks.

Phil Southall, Managing Director of Oxford Bus Company said: “These latest Volvo B11R coaches join five similar vehicles introduced just over a year ago. It reflects how important the X90 London route is and shows our ongoing commitment to giving the best possible service to our passengers.

“The eight new Volvo coaches with Plaxton Elite-I bodywork provide an extra 15,000 seats per month on the X90 route. We’ve also resisted the temptation to put more seats in because it would have reduced legroom.”

He added: “Volvo is a manufacturer that has a strong reputation for safety and performance. The welfare of our passengers is of the utmost importance, so that was obviously a key factor in our decision. The excellent combination of the Volvo Euro 6 driveline and the stylish Plaxton bodywork was also a consideration.”

Phil Fletcher, Volvo Bus Fleet Sales Manager said: “The X90 Oxford to London service is a key route for Oxford Bus Company. They wanted reliable coaches that offered safety, reliability, style and capacity, Volvo Bus and Plaxton met those requirements.

“It is great to be supplying coaches to operate on such a popular route. The fuel efficient B11R chassis is extremely versatile and that is demonstrated by the inter-deck option supplied here.”

The Volvo B11R coach is specified with the Volvo D11K, 11 litre Euro 6 engine rated at 460hp. Each of the eight new vehicles delivered to Oxford Bus Company features 63 passenger seats and has 4G Wi-Fi, USB and power sockets.

Oxford Bus Company carries more than 17 million passengers per year and has one of the lowest emissions ratings of any operator in the UK. The company runs a fleet of luxury coaches to London, Heathrow and Gatwick, in addition to services to and from Oxford’s five Park and Ride car parks.
