Volvo ‘seals the deal’ with GoBus.ie

An order for eight integral Volvo B11R 9700 Euro 6 coaches was secured at this year’s Coach & Bus Live for GoBus.ie as the latest additions to its fleet, all of which will include the new Volvo Driver Support System (DSS) fitted as standard.

This latest order follows on the back of 13 Volvo coaches already delivered to GoBus.ie so far this year.  Scheduled for delivery early in 2016, the new order is comprised of four 13m 53/55 seat vehicles and four 13.8m 57/59 seaters, all with alloy wheels and CCTV.

The DSS includes AEBS (forward collision warning and advanced emergency braking systems), LKS (lane keeping support) and ACC (adaptive cruise control).  ACC will also be offered as an option on other Volvo B11R body types when specified with the I-Shift gearbox.

GoBus.ie Managing Director, Jim Burke, explained: “We’ve been really pleased with the quality, appearance and operational performance of our previous Volvo B11R 9700s, which is why we’ve chosen them again this time.

“Earlier this year we were invited to take part in the testing of the DSS with one of our new Volvo B11Rs.  As we are always keen to be involved with new technologies and anything that helps to improve driver safety and that of our passengers, we were glad to be included in the trialling phase.

“Since then all of our drivers have had the opportunity to try out the DSS for themselves and they all think it’s great, so the fact that it is now fitted as standard on the Volvo B11R 9700 was another key part of our purchasing decision making.”

New legislation means active safety systems such as this will need to be fitted in all commercial vehicles.  In the coach world, this will apply to M3, Class 3 category vehicles - coaches with seated passengers only.

David Porter, Retail Bus & Coach Sales Manager for Volvo Bus, said: “It is great to receive this order for an additional eight fully integral coaches from GoBus.ie and it is particularly pleasing that their experience of the DSS was a contributing factor in them choosing the vehicle again.  In addition, we are confident they will benefit from the fuel economy performance offered by the Volvo B11R 9700 and that their passengers will enjoy the ride comfort it provides.”

Based in Galway, GoBus.ie has specified more than one hundred Volvos over the past two decades, including this year’s deliveries this takes the company’s current fleet to around 33 vehicles. The Volvo 9700 coaches work on schedule services between Cork and Dublin along the M8 motorway and between Galway and Dublin on the M4/M6 motorways.
