One of Ireland’s leading coach operators, Bernard Kavanagh & Sons, has taken delivery of three new Volvo coaches as the latest additions to its fleet.

Based in Kilkenny, the new vehicles will be added to the fleet of 60+ coaches, which are predominantly Volvo.  This latest order is comprised of two B11R integral Volvo 9700s, one being 13m in length and one 13.8m, and one Volvo B8R featuring Sunsundegui SC5 bodywork.

Bernard Kavanagh, co-owner of Bernard Kavanagh & Sons, said “We purchased five Volvo 9700s earlier this year and we have found the operational performance and reliability of the B11R chassis to be excellent having noticed a significant improvement on our fuel consumption rates.  It not only meets, but exceeds our requirements, which is why we had no hesitation in going for Volvo again when we decided we needed additional coaches for our busy fleet.

“We have been dealing with Volvo for many years and in doing so have built a strong relationship with the company, and we trust the brand.

“In particular, the 9700 is a stylish and aesthetically pleasing coach which has been very well received by our passengers, who have high expectations on the look, ride quality and features of the vehicles they travel in.

“The smaller Volvo B8R Euro 6 chassis combined with the SC5 bodywork also provides excellent fuel efficiency with versatile operation and a stylish appearance. As the vehicle is slightly smaller, it makes it easier to navigate on narrower routes found on rural roads and in city centres.

“Once again we have worked with our Volvo Retail Sales Manager, Dave Porter, who as always has managed the whole purchasing process in a highly professional and efficient manner from order right through to delivery.

“As with most operators in today’s market, aftersales is very important to our business and we know that we will get the service we require from our local Volvo dealership, Irish Commercials, which was another important consideration in our vehicle selection.”

Dave Porter added: “We continue to enjoy a long and excellent working relationship with Bernard and his team and these latest purchases underline their confidence and overall good experience they’ve enjoyed with the vehicles.

“Notably, the 9700 continues to go from strength to strength and is particularly popular with many of the Irish operators due to its stylish appearance, which seems to be going down very well with their passengers and visitors to Ireland from all around the globe.  The tourism market is extremely important to the Irish economy and it is good to know that our vehicles are playing a key role in creating a good impression and providing a great ride quality for Bernard Kavanagh’s customers and those of other operators servicing this sector.”

In operation since 1945, Bernard Kavangh & Sons Ltd is Ireland’s largest private coach tour operator and runs the fleet from Urlingford, providing luxury modern coaches for touring work and international contracts.
