This is the first integral Volvo vehicle taken by the Annascaul, County Kerry, based operator which currently has seven Volvos in its fleet.  All of Kennedy’s large coaches are Volvo, which are made up of a mixture of Jonckheere and Sunsundegui bodywork models.

Patrick Kennedy, owner and director of Kennedy Coaches, explains: “This year we celebrate 70 years in business and we wanted to mark this milestone by investing in a special new vehicle, which is why we chose the Volvo 9900. It is completely different to any other coach in our fleet and we particularly like the aesthetic appearance and styling of the coach which lends itself to our distinctive blue livery colour.

“As long term Volvo customers we know that it will also deliver in terms of comfort and safety which is paramount for us. We are confident our passengers will love it as much as we do. We are very excited to have it as our flagship vehicle as we mark this 70th year of our company.”

The 13.1m, 3 axle, 53 seat coach will predominantly be used for a range of touring work throughout Ireland.

Patrick added:  “As with any coach operator today, reliability and good fuel economy rates are vital to our business and this is what the Volvo B11R chassis delivers.  In addition, we have an excellent relationship with Murphy Commercials in Galway, who look after all our service requirements, which was another reason for us going with Volvo again this time.”

Dave Porter, Coach Sales Manager for Volvo, said:  “We’ve been working with Kennedy Coaches for many years now and they are one of our longest established customers.  After consulting with the team at Kennedy’s, we knew they were seeking a fitting way to mark the 70th anniversary and were pleased when they placed the order for this special premium coach, their first integral Volvo, as part of the celebrations.  It’s exciting to see it become the flagship vehicle for Kennedy’s fleet and I know it will deliver great service for them now and in the future.

“The Volvo 9900 is becoming a familiar sight on the roads in Ireland and the vehicle is quickly picking up where its predecessor, the integral 9700, left off as the premium coach of choice for the important Irish tourist market.”

Established in 1950, Kennedy Coaches is a family owned and operated company with Patrick Kennedy being the third generation to take the reins.  His father Paddy Kennedy is still involved in the business which offers transport for sightseeing and golf tours, school contracts, wedding services and corporate hire.
