Daniel Tanner appointed Service Market Director at Volvo Bus UK & Ireland, as Andy Kunze begins retirement

After 35 years at the Volvo Group, Andy Kunze is passing the baton to Volvo Bus UK & Ireland’s new Service Market Director, Daniel Tanner, as he takes a step back.
Daniel Tanner, newly appointed Service Market Director at Volvo Bus UK & Ireland

Tanner’s appointment sees him head a team responsible for maintaining Volvo Buses’ high standards of customer support and overseeing its dealer network, from a bus and coach perspective, across the UK and Ireland. He is based at Volvo Bus UK & Ireland’s headquarters in Warwick, reporting directly to Domenico Bondi, Managing Director.

With more than 17 years’ experience within the Volvo Group, eight of those specifically with bus and coach, Tanner has a lot in common with the outgoing Service Market Director. Like Kunze, he began his career as an apprentice technician, and has since worked in various positions within the organisation.

Commenting on his appointment, Tanner says: “This is a fantastic role to be taking on, and I’m excited to have this opportunity to continue driving the business forwards. It’s a position which is very much people and relationship orientated, and that’s part of the attraction for me. I look forward to seeing it develop further, particularly during such a transformative period for the bus and coach industry as we embrace more sustainable transport options.

“However, it’s also bittersweet because Andy has been a role model for me and so many in our team and leaves big shoes to fill.”

Kunze began his career in 1978 with an apprenticeship at Leyland Motors, before its bus operations were acquired by Volvo Buses in 1988. Since then, and over the past 36 years, he’s held positions within both Volvo Trucks and Volvo Buses.

Reflecting on his career, Kunze says: “I’ve enjoyed every minute of it, and I’ve learned something new every single day. It’s has given me the opportunity to work alongside some fantastic people at Volvo Group, Volvo Buses, within the Volvo dealer network, and at our customers. I’m very grateful to all of them for the experiences we have shared.

“The company is a wonderful employer and creates lots of meaningful opportunities for its employees to grow and develop – which is perfectly exemplified by both mine and Dan’s experience. Dan is a superb engineer and brings a first-class technical background and proven commercial experience to the role. It’s a terrific appointment for the business.”

Kunze will continue to support Volvo Bus UK & Ireland on a one day per week basis working closely with Domenico Bondi. At the same time he will be undertaking several strategic projects aimed at ensuring maximum support for the company, the dealer network and its customers.
