FMS Gateway. The direct connection to your vehicle data.
There’s a lot going on inside a bus. And the vehicle data is readily available for those who know how to capture it. With the FMS Gateway you have a stream of information on tap, ready to be used in your applications.
Standardized data format
The Volvo Buses FMS Gateway unit collects onboard data and converts it to ACEA FMS data format. Data is accessed via the onboard interface where the customer can connect their own hardware and can obtain the continuous data stream from the connector interface.
FMS Standard data for free
Data can be used onboard and/or sent to customer back-office systems by the customer hardware. With the FMS Gateway there is a standard dataset available - free of charge and included with hardware. In addition there are two extended datasets - which can be purchased with one-time payments.

The FMS Gateway packages
Volvo collects, processes and converts connected vehicle data to a standardized format, providing better possibilities to integrate into customer systems in a multi-brand fleet scenario and achieve interoperability.
Standard
ACEA FMS Standard v4 (work ongoing v5). Included with hardware FMS Gateway.
Alternator, brakes, clutch, cruise control, doors, coolant temp, etc.
Fuel consumption, fuel level, SOC, remaining energy, etc.
Time driving, vehicle speed, odometer, tacho data etc.
~ 40 different telltales
Extended
Extended dataset focused on electromobility. Unlockable for a one-time cost.
HVAC status, fuel heater status, windscreen wiper status, etc.
Energy consumption 600V/24V, energy consumption motor, HVAC energy usage, instantaneous energy consumption h/km, total energy consumption
Charging status, charging power, time to fully charged, etc.
Extended Plus
Further extended dataset focused on electromobility. Unlockable for a one-time cost.
Battery coolant temp, Motor coolant temp
Incoming and outgoing power values (throughput) in the ESS battery pack, 20 to 120 power values per report and minute.
How it works
Connectivity can be easy. Plug in the FMS Gateway and the data is there. By default, you are provided with a standard set of data (FMS Standard) right at the hardware connector. Additional parameters focused on electromobility can be added by purchasing extension packages.

FMS Gateway is Volvo Buses onboard data access service supporting the industry-wide FMS standard for customers or third parties using onboard hardware to collect and manage data.
In addition to the FMS Standard service, Volvo Buses offers extended operational data content focused on electromobility. The two different extended service packages available are FMS Gateway Extended and FMS Gateway Extended Plus.
The Volvo Buses FMS Gateway services adheres to the FMS standard which is a standard interface to vehicle data developed by the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA). The data is offered as a continuous data stream ready to be consumed by customer onboard hardware.
