Arthur’s new role requires direct liaison with customers, representing Volvo Bus and the regional dealerships in resolution of technical, service and aftermarket issues. He will be supporting the dealer regional team in the continuous improvement of technical engineering competence and service support, whilst also helping to meet operational policies and requirements agreed or implemented by Volvo Bus.

“I’m really enjoying the new challenge already,” explained Arthur. “My role allows me to integrate experience gained in my previous career and apply that with advanced problem solving with a view to resolving customer and dealer issues when differences occur.

“Understanding the Volvo brand and environment, away from the safety net of the military, was my first challenge and I’m particularly looking forward to bringing my own unique approach in customer focus to my geographical area of responsibility.”

Arthur began his impressive 20 year career as an automotive engineer in 1989, undertaking mechanical training at the School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in Bordon, Hampshire. He trained as a Universal mechanic working on a range of British Army vehicles. The rest of his military career has seen him work in a range of different environments with a wide and varied set of mechanical and technical skills required throughout.

His most recent military role as Warrant Officer Class 1, Artificer Sergeant Major in Nuneaton, saw him oversee operational readiness, organisational policy and wide scale technical support.

Reporting to Volvo Bus Service Manager UK and Ireland, Ian Wallace, Arthur is responsible for customers in the North of England and in Scotland. Travelling from his home in Ayr in Scotland, he will be mainly based out of the Cardonald Truck and Bus Dealership in Glasgow, but will also make regular trips to other dealerships.

Ian Wallace is clearly delighted to strengthen the Service team with such a technically experienced appointment. “Arthur ticked all the boxes for us,” he explained. “He has extensive experience in repair, maintenance modification, diagnosis of faults and liaison with customers. Arthur has regularly managed difficult situations and has worked his way to positions of real authority and responsibility. I am convinced he will be a real asset to the business.”
