The All-New Volvo BZL-SC Neustar City Full Electric Bus Makes its Singapore Debut
SINGAPORE, 17 November 2022 – Volvo Buses Singapore, part of the Volvo Group (“Volvo”), one of the world’s leading providers of sustainable people transport solutions, and SC Auto Industries (“SC Auto”), a homegrown bus manufacturer, today launched the Volvo BZL-SC Neustar City electric bus, delivering the first full electric, 3-door stepless bus that is designed, engineered, and manufactured in Singapore.

Partnering with SC Auto, Volvo Buses accelerate electromobility journey in Singapore and beyond
With the increasing popularity of electric buses, we take a deep dive into the partnership between Volvo and SC Auto Industries (SC Auto).
With the impending introduction of fully electric buses, Volvo Buses Singapore is gearing up to rolling out this new type of vehicle in the city state. A lot of preparation goes behind the scenes into introduction of a new technology product together with ComfortDelGro Engineering, the sole authorized distributor for Volvo Buses parts and services in Singapore. the Swedish brand is putting resources in place to make it a smooth transition from internal combustion engines. In our exclusive interview, Achuth Das, Senior Manager Commercial Sales and Marcus Mak, Senior Manager Technical Service, Volvo Buses APAC Central Region share their experiences about this new technology and the partnership with ComfortDelGro Engineering (CDGE).
A recent study conducted by the University of Madrid has revealed that full hybrid bus technology reduces carbon emissions by as much as a third more than mild hybrid bus technology. Enrique Alcalá is one of the researchers who conducted the study in collaboration with Volvo Buses.
Latrobe Valley Bus Lines was one of the first operators in Australia to implement Volvo’s hybrid product – which has seen excellent outcomes for the environment, passengers and drivers. Now the company is taking the next step on its ambitious electromobility journey with its participation in the Victorian Zero Emissions Bus trial (ZEB) later this year.
The recent launch of Volvo’s BZL has shown the market where the development is headed on a global scale. Asian Buses spoke to Mats Nilsson and Achuth Das to learn more about the challenges and opportunities of electrified transportation.

Volvo’s new self-charging bus can now drive longer and emission-free on electricity
The new Volvo self-charging buses with hybrid power, the “S-Charge” model range have been upgraded with new capabilities and can now drive silently and emission-free on electricity at higher speeds and cover longer distances than before. This creates new possibilities to use self-charging hybrid-electric powered buses in city zero-emission zones and other sensitive areas.

Late 2018, Volvo Buses delivered 6 low entry Volvo B8RLE Euro 6 chassis’ to Sentosa Development Corporation. These buses will be used to move tourists within Sentosa, covering both the western part of the island and the eastern side attractions. These newly delivered Volvo B8RLE’s are amongst the first Euro 6 low entry buses to be delivered in Singapore.
