Volvo 9900 safety

The Volvo 9900 is equipped with advanced safety systems and protection systems to provide superior driver and passenger safety. To us, safety always comes first, and we constantly improve in our drive towards our vision of zero accidents.

Driver Alert System

A system that registers the drivers’ behaviour and the position of the bus in the lane. If the driver loses concentration, the system displays pop-up messages and emits audible signals to encourage the driver to pay attention to the road ahead or to take a break.

Volvo Dynamic Steering

A technology that improves steering responsiveness and precision, thus reducing the strain on the driver’s shoulders, neck and arms.

Collision Warning and Emergency Brake

If a collision is imminent, the driver gets both a visual and an audible warning. If the driver does not respond, the system automatically activates the brakes lightly in a pre-brake procedure, followed by full braking power.

Lane Keeping Support

A warning system that notifies the driver if the coach is about to unintentionally cross a lane marker.

I-Coaching

A system that helps you drive more safely and fuel-efficiently. It gives instant feedback on driving parameters such as overrevving, harsh acceleration, excessive idling and over-speed.

Safety Zones

With active low-speed zones, it is possible to ensure that the buses always keep the speed limits around sensible areas such as schools, large bus stops and city centres.

Adaptive Cruise Control

A radar and front camera detect vehicles in front of the coach when driving and automatically maintain a set distance to the vehicle in front.

Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection System

To support the driver in busy city traffic, this system helps the driver detect pedestrians and cyclists who are moving in a way that might pose a risk.

Electronic Stability Control

A system that supports the driver in critical driving situations such as skidding or imminent tipping over when driving too fast in curves.

Volvo protection systems

Volvo has the industry’s strongest reputation for safety innovations. The Volvo 9900 is equipped with several protection systems that significantly reduce the risk of serious injuries in collisions with passenger cars.

Front Impact Protection

In the event of a front-end collision, the reinforced front increases the protection for the driver and guide.

Knee Impact Protection

If the driver isn’t wearing a seatbelt or the front is heavily crushed inward, this feature absorbs the impact energy and protects the driver’s knees and thigh bones.

Front Underrun Protection

The FUPS comprises a steel beam fitted behind the bus’s front bumper. It prevents an oncoming car from being wedged under the bus in a frontal collision.
