The Volvo B13R features several fuel-saving technologies. Reported savings of up to 15% compared with the previous engine. Examples of reasons behind are the new engine compartment layout, a unique cooling system with electrical fans and lower engine revs at cruising speed.

When we developed the all-new Volvo B13R coach platform, we looked at the toughest operational challenges. Demanding climate, long and hilly routes and varying road conditions, yet with firm focus on comfort, safety and productivity.

A powerful driver experience
Driving the Volvo B13R is a sensational experience. Perfectly seated, you get that special feeling of control. With 500 horsepower, an updated I-Shift transmission with overdrive and seamless gear shifting, you have instant power access already from low revs. And for the high-floor versions you can add our unique Volvo Dynamic Steering. The result is solid low-rev power, smooth gear changes and light steering for comfortable and safe driving.

Stability and control
The chassis, with an updated, lighter and more steady suspension increases stability in all driving situations. The low unsprung weight also increases comfort on uneven road surfaces. And with Volvo Dynamic Steering, directional stability, manoeuvrability and driver control are enhanced.

Fuel efficiency
The powerful way to save fuel
The 13-litre engine and driveline is our most powerful ever. They feature several fuel-saving technologies, helping to reduce fuel consumption substantially. Customer reports indicate savings of up to 15%. For improved environmental performance, all engine versions can run on HVO (reducing CO2 impact by up to 85%), and the most powerful versions also on biofuel (CO2-reduction up to 45%).

New unique cooling system
The unique cooling system features dual radiators on opposite sides of the engine installation, served by energy-efficient electrical fans. The temperature is kept low and uniform in all conditions, which contributes to reduced fuel consumption and longer service intervals.
I-Shift transmission
The Volvo B13R comes with Volvo’s legendary I-Shift transmission. Lower internal friction and optimised software contribute to the fuel savings. For added efficiency you can specify the Volvo I-Shift with overdrive, which gives 22% lower revs at cruising in top gear.
Dynamic Chassis Lowering
When cruising above 80 km/h the coach is automatically lowered by 20 mm, thus reducing air resistance and fuel consumption. When speed drops below 70 km/h the ride height is restored.
I-See – learning by doing
A valuable feature that can cut fuel consumption by up to 3%. It’s an intelligent cruise control, which adapts to the topography and proactively optimises acceleration, gearshifts and braking when driving with cruise control.
Volvo Acceleration Limiter
Volvo Acceleration Limiter helps to save fuel by providing the exact torque to keep the current speed and acceleration. This is achieved by adjusting torque to the road topography and vehicle weight.
ISO Flow
ISO Flow is an extension of the fuel management system. By restricting the amount of injected fuel at higher revs, fuel is saved when accelerating, yet without losing torque at lower revs.
