The modular energy storage system enables a capacity of up to 720 kWh, providing a range of up to 700 km according to SORT 3. This allows for efficient long-distance operation – or the flexibility for more assignments without range anxiety. It can also be optimised for shorter routes with smaller battery capacity to save weight.

The coach comes in two different design levels – Select for commuter traffic and Superior for tour and charter operation.

Volvo Dynamic Steering is a unique Volvo feature that takes most of the effort out of driving. The effortless manoeuvring in roundabouts and when cornering, as well as the automatic return to the dead-ahead position, are major benefits for the driver. They significantly reduce the risk of injuries in the neck, shoulders and arms, which helps reduce sick days and rehabilitation costs.

With Volvo, you can combine and change your charging methods. Quick high-power charging on route or in the depot, as well as manually operated depot charging via CCS cable. And your coaches’ energy storage system can be specified to perfectly suit the capacity need of your routes.
Depot charging and public charging combined can be the best strategy when you need the flexibility to operate on different routes. The Volvo BZR Electric coach can be charged through a CCS connection at the depot, during breaks, off-peak or at night. The coach can be equipped with plug-in sockets in several locations to suit your depot layout.

The range of an electric coach depends on several factors. Together with the operator we determine the energy demand for the route, and then we guarantee that this capacity will be available. We offer this as the useable energy commitment, and your benefit is that there’s no need to worry about batteries anymore.
With up to 720 kWh of installed nominal capacity, the Volvo BZR Electric – CD is ready for true long-distance operation or increased flexibility to operate even more routes. For shorter or less demanding routes, the onboard energy storage can be right-sized to reduce weight.
The Volvo BZR Electric – CD be equipped with up to eight Volvo Cube battery units, each with a capacity of 90 kWh.

A coach battery’s lifetime can be significantly extended if managed correctly – during operation, charging, and maintenance. All Volvo electric buses feature a smart Battery Management System that controls charging and discharging processes while continuously monitoring battery health and performance. It also ensures optimised battery function in any climate.
The electric Volvo powertrain delivers the power and drivability needed for safe operation in even the most demanding conditions. Available with either a single or dual-motor setup, it offers up to 540 hp / 400 kW. This makes the Volvo BZR Electric – CD a confident hill climber, capable of maintaining a high pace, even on tight schedules.

The Volvo BZR Electric – CD is equipped with a Hill Start function, preventing the vehicle from rolling backwards when starting on hills. The feature guarantees safe starts with heavy loads even on a 20% uphill gradient.
With dual motors, the Volvo BZR Electric – CD delivers confident performance even in extremely hilly terrain. Fully loaded, it can maintain speeds above 50 km/h on a 6% uphill gradient.
Gear changing is automatic and software-controlled. During gear shifting, the transmission program uses the electric motor to synchronize input and output shafts to speed up and optimize the comfort of the gear shift.
Volvo offers an array of intelligent functions helping the driver to drive safely, avoid incidents and protecting from injuries and damage. Excellent visibility and ergonomics help the driver to stay focused and alert.
