The new Volvo BZR Electric coach chassis marks a bold step forward in electrification, offering up to 720 kWh battery capacity and an operating range of up to 700 km*. This is an electric coach chassis capable of longer journeys with fewer charging stops and greater operational versatility – enabling long interregional routes that were previously not viable for electric coaches.

The versatile and proven global Volvo BZR Electric chassis platform is now expanded, as Volvo Buses launches the Volvo BZR Electric for coach applications – available with two or three axles and four to eight modular energy storage units. This modular design allows the chassis to be tailored for a wide range of operational needs and optimised for shorter distances or maximum range. The industry-leading battery capacity of up to 720 kWh means improved efficiency, increased range, and reduced travel times.

“Our new electric chassis reaches for more than just extended operating range. It enables new routes and gives operators greater versatility,” says Volvo Buses President Anna Westerberg.

The Volvo BZR Electric coach chassis gives operators the flexibility to run electric services on more routes, including in environmental zones – a major advantage for long-distance coaches as well as tour & charter operations. The electric chassis will be offered with bodies from different bodybuilders, depending on market and customer preferences. With the launch of the Volvo BZR Electric coach chassis, Volvo Buses now offers electromobility solutions for every segment – city, intercity, long-distance, and tour & charter – all able to be customized for a wide range of customer needs.

“We are proud to present a solution that makes sustainable travel accessible to more people on more routes,” says Anna Westerberg. “The Volvo BZR Electric coach chassis shows how electrification can go beyond reducing tailpipe emissions. With responsibly sourced materials and a product built to last, we minimize the life-cycle footprint. And we do this while delivering comfort, efficiency, and the highest safety standards for both everyday commuting and long-distance journeys.”

Being part of Volvo Group means that Volvo Buses can fully leverage proven powertrain solutions that are developed, tested, and produced at scale. To meet different needs for charging at depots and on routes, the Volvo BZR Electric coach chassis offers both 250 kW CCS charging and 450 kW OppCharge. The chassis is also equipped with the latest versions of Volvo Buses’ active safety systems to protect both passengers and vulnerable road users.

“Together with operators, we are making travel safer, more comfortable, and sustainable than ever before,” says Dan Pettersson, Senior Vice President at Volvo Buses.

The first Volvo BZR Electric coach chassis has already been bodied by Carrus Delta and is intended for customers in the Nordic and Benelux markets.
