Vy Flygbussarna will be the first operator to put Volvo Buses’ new electric coach, the Volvo BZR Electric – CD, into commercial service. Operations will begin on the Gothenburg–Landvetter Airport route during spring.
With the launch of the Volvo BZR Electric – CD, Volvo Buses takes the next step in its electrification journey. Vy flygbussarna will be the first customer to operate the model in regular service, marking a significant milestone for both companies.
“We are delighted that Vy flygbussarna will be the first to operate the Volvo BZR Electric – CD. Our long-standing partnership is built on trust and shared ambitions, and Vy flygbussarna’s decision to continue its electrification journey with us is a clear vote of confidence, and a testament to our commitment as a long-term partner,” says Martin Spjern, Country Manager Sweden at Volvo Buses.
“We want to be at the forefront of the transition to sustainable travel, and that is exactly what we are doing together with Volvo. By bringing this new electric coach into real service, we are showing that the future of long-distance travel is already here delivering cleaner, quieter, more comfortable and more energy-efficient journeys for our guests,” says Zakaria Abna-Aissa, Commercial Director, Bus at Vy in Sweden.
The Volvo BZR Electric chassis platform features a versatile and modular design, allowing it to be tailored to a wide range of operational needs and optimized for either shorter routes or maximum range. In this case, the vehicle will operate as an airport shuttle service between Gothenburg city center and Landvetter Airport.
“Vy flygbussarna’s passengers expect the highest levels of comfort and quality, and with the Volvo BZR Electric – CD, we are confident we can meet, and exceed, those expectations,” says Martin Spjern.
The Volvo BZR Electric – CD is equipped with seven batteries, providing a total capacity of 630 kWh. The coach is designed to deliver a quiet, smooth, and comfortable driving experience.
Additionly, it features an ergonomic instrument cluster and highly adjustable seating, combined with the predictable handling of Volvo’s chassis, creating a driver-focused workplace. The coach can accommodate up to 67 passengers and offers onboard Wi-Fi and USB charging.
The Volvo BZR Electric – CD will be presented to the public for the first time at the
Busstorget fair in Halmstad, Sweden on 16–17 April.
