Volvo Buses has received an order for 47 battery-electric buses from bus operator Bergkvara to strengthen its public transport operations in region Skåne. Bergkvara selected Volvo’s 8900 Electric model – an efficient and reliable electric commuter bus offering zero emissions and low noise for city environments.

Volvo’s latest electric bus order is with Bergkvara, one of Sweden’s largest bus operators with more than 1 350 buses in operation. Bergkvara is contracted by public transport authority Skånetrafiken to operate its local and regional bus services. The new Volvo buses will serve intercity commuters in region Skåne as well as the city of Trelleborg where Bergkvara is operating electric buses for a cleaner and quieter city environment.

“We are truly happy about the confidence from Bergkvara, a major operator with strict requirements on product reliability as well as total cost of ownership,” says Martin Spjern, Country Manager Sweden at Volvo Buses. “I’m also looking forward to a continued collaboration with Bergkvara as we both strive for a more sustainable society through zero emission people transport solutions.”

Volvo Buses’ contract with Bergkvara is for 47 buses of Volvos’ 8900 Electric model with 4x2 and 6x2 configuration. The electric driveline will include 5 or 6 cube battery units, depending on model.

“At Bergkvara, we are very happy with the deal with Volvo Buses and we are looking forward to putting their electric buses into traffic for our travellers in Skåne and Trelleborg”, says Hans Nilsson, CEO Bergkvara. “We are also hoping for a continued good co-operation as we are expanding our investments in sustainable and safe people transport.”

Along with the new electric Volvo buses, Bergkvara will also benefit from its partnership with Volvo Buses, giving them access to a broad range of supporting products and services. The new electric buses are planned to go into service by the end of 2027.

Volvo Buses – a pioneer in electromobility since 2017 – offers a battery-electric city and intercity bus portfolio consisting of the complete Volvo 7900 Electric, Volvo 7900 Electric Articulated, and Volvo 8900 Electric buses, and the Volvo BZR and Volvo BZL electric platforms.
