Volvo Buses has received an order for 25 new modern coaches from Vy. The coaches will enter service with Vy flygbussarna coaches and will be used for travel to and from the airports in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö.

This investment is part of Vy’s long-term efforts to offer high comfort and reliability for travelers across Europe while simultaneously reducing its climate impact.

“We share Vy’s ambition to create more sustainable passenger transport and see this order as an important step in the continued transition. We have a long-term partnership with Vy, and together we can continue to develop solutions that combine high operational reliability and enhanced comfort with a lower climate impact,” says Jonas Pettersson, Volvo Buses.

The new coaches are built on Volvo’s B13R chassis and feature an updated body from Carrus Delta. The buses will be equipped with Volvo’s I-Shift gearbox, which, together with the updated design, contributes to lower fuel consumption. Vy and Volvo Buses share a common vision of reducing the use of fossil fuels, with the long-term goal of becoming completely fossil-free. For example, Vy flygbussarna and Volvo Buses were among the first in Sweden to use the biofuel RME in their buses as early as 2008.

“With this investment, we are taking the next step in our efforts to give our passengers an even more comfortable, more reliable and more sustainable journey to and from the airport. Together with Volvo Buses, we are combining modern technology, high comfort and operational reliability in order to continue developing Vy airport coaches,” says Zakaria Abna-Aissa, Commercial Director for Bus at Vy in Sweden.

The order also includes a full-service agreement, a Volvo Gold Contract, covering among other things ongoing maintenance and inspections as well as repairs. The service agreement ensures high availability and cost-efficient operation throughout the buses’ service life.

The first five buses will be delivered in May, while the remaining deliveries will take place progressively during the autumn.

As part of the collaboration, an electric coach will also operate on the Gothenburg–Landvetter Airport route. This initiative marks another step in Volvo Buses’ and Vy Flygbussarna’s joint efforts to advance the next generation of sustainable travel. The electric bus will enter commercial service in May.
